A relaxed two-day Coorg route from Bengaluru — coffee estates, waterfalls, and the green Western Ghats, with honest monsoon notes.

An easy weekend from Bengaluru

Coorg is the classic green weekend from Bengaluru — about five to six hours of comfortable driving into Karnataka's coffee hills. It is gentle, scenic, and forgiving for first-time road-trippers: good roads, plenty of estate homestays, and no serious altitude or rough terrain to worry about.

The trick to enjoying it is to slow down. Coorg is not a checklist of viewpoints; it is mist over coffee rows, a slow plantation walk, and long meals of Kodava food. Pick a homestay you like and let the weekend unfold around it.

A simple two-day route

Day one works best as a Madikeri day: Raja's Seat for the sunset, Abbey Falls, the Omkareshwara temple, and a coffee-estate homestay to settle into. On day two, head out to the Dubare elephant camp on the Cauvery, the river island of Nisargadhama, and a guided spice-and-coffee plantation walk before the drive home.

Add Talacauvery, the source of the Cauvery, or the Tibetan settlement and golden temple at Bylakuppe if you have a longer weekend and want a third anchor.

Monsoon notes

Coorg in the monsoon (June to September) is at its most beautiful and its most demanding: estate lanes turn slippery, plantation walks come with leeches, and rain can settle in for hours. It is worth it for the green, but pack rain gear, anti-leech socks, and footwear with grip, and drive the wet ghat sections gently.

For easy, clear conditions, October to March is the comfortable window — cool, green, and ideal for a relaxed first road trip.
